Moving Toward a Global Ecumenical Religious System

While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. (1Thess 5:3)

Introduction

The purpose of this article is to focus on the current activities of religious institutions in their attempt to bring about a interfaith ecumenical religious system under the banner of peace.

In looking at this subject this article will be broken into three parts (1) The religions of the world moving toward a Ecumenical Religious System (2)The Worlds Governments Uniting with Religion in The Pursuit of Global Peace (3)The prophetic significance(4)The Biblical view  on Separation

Some will claim that the Christian witness has been hurt due to the numerous factions which divide Christianity, as a result proponents of the ecumenical movement believe that the Gospel of Christ can be better preached by a united church. I'm convinced this is only true under one condition and that is they agree on the essentials of the faith (Jude 1:3; 2 Cor 6:14-18) and that Biblical separation is practice.

But this line of thinking doesn't aligned up with the word of God. As far as fractions are concerned the Bible tells us that factions are used to show who is approved by God.

1Cor 11:19:  19 For there must also be factions among you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you.

The questions we should ask ourselves, "Does the interfaith ecumenical movement represent the Biblical position on fellowship and unity or is it outside of what the Bible teaches?" Should a Bible believing Christian be a participant in the interfaith ecumenical movement? The information in this article clearly answers these questions by examining these efforts in light of the prophetic scriptures that describe the false religious system that will play a major role in the  political arena of world government during the seven year "Tribulation period".

In watching the religious prophetic stage being set in the forming of a one World religion, there is an aggressive effort by those within Protestant, Evangelical, Roman Catholic, Islam, Hinduism, Baha'i Faith and other World Religions and the United Nations - a political body - to unify around the stated goals of “peace" and solving critical global problems such as war, famine, and the protection of the planet.

For those involved, religious, theological and doctrinal differences are overlooked.

From a Judeo Christian perspective, the uniqueness of the person of Christ, his redemptive work and faith are seen as being equal to or less desirable to the world's religious writings, founders, and practices. The witness of the gospel has been sidelined and replaced with "dialogue" around peace and solving the world's problems. There is no recognition given to the biblical mandate to witness to those who do not know Jesus Christ.

The rules of engagement in the interfaith movement is "no proselytizing".[1],[2],[3]; Biblical truth has been neutralize and has lost it's distinctiveness among the worlds religious system. The goal is no longer bringing people into the kingdom of God through a relationship with Jesus Christ but  more of an effort of solving the social ills of the world.

In the world's culture peace is seen as something that man can achieve universally without recognizing the need for a relationship with the person of  Jesus Christ.

When one looks at the stated goals, activities, beliefs and what the unsaved participants are representing, the prophetic significance is plainly clear, and that is the pre-formation of the Babylonian religious system that will be fully matured during the time of the "Great Tribulation." (Rev 17:1-7).

Biblical Babylon represents a seductive rebellious world system in all of its aspects (cultural, commercial, religious and political) in opposition to God.

For those who may say that I'm being speculative, sensational, or untruthful or just down right critical in light of the goal of those seeking "World peace" through religious ecumenicalism. I would encourage you to consider the following information in light of Biblical prophesy about a universal seductive false religious system that will exist at the end of the age.

God has provided us with a number of prophecies that are clear enough to allow us to understand the unfolding of what we see today as foreshadowing events that will precede the end times scenario - these are called the "signs of the times".

Activities Bringing About a One World Ecumenical Religious System

World Conference of Religions for Peace

The defining moment that jump started the ecumenical efforts for the 21st century occurred in 20th century 1970. It was called the World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP) was held in Kyoto in 1970. Religious leaders representing different faiths overcame the differences of their beliefs, gathering together in one place to pray together and converse about peace and human rights. [1]

"Religions for Peace, full name World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP) is now a large international coalition of representatives from the world’s religions dedicated to promoting peace founded in 1970.

International Secretariat headquarters is in New York City, with Regional Conferences in Europe and Asia, and more than 75 affiliates at the national level, and a number of local units. Religions for Peace enjoys consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), with UNESCO and with UNICEF. Dr. William F Vendley is its Secretary General.

This non-governmental organization (NGO) serves on all continents representing over 70 countries; it networks with World Council of senior religious leaders while respecting religious differences, common humanity and the influence of peace within every religion. This organization has created multi-religious partnerships to confront most dire issues such as stopping war, ending poverty and protecting the earth. Religions for Peace was founded in 1970 and supported by various foundations, governments, intergovernmental organizations, religious communities, religiously affiliated development agencies and individuals.[4]"

The World Day of Prayer 1986

In an event called the  "World Day of Prayer 1986", the following is a, list of prayers of the participates that where prayed called the Peace Seeds which represent the twelve prayers for peace prayed.[5] Among the participants where those from the Christian faith."Altogether there were 160 participants at the prayer meeting for peace in Assisi (Rocky Mountain News, Denver, Colorado, October 28, 1986). Let us note some of those who attended this affair:

The “Christian” leaders represented 32 denominations, whose adherents allegedly number 3.5 billion people, or 70 percent of the world’s population! ...

The “Christian” leaders came from many ecumenical organizations--The World Council of Churches, represented by its executive secretary and three of its seven presidents, the World YWCA, the World Alliance of YMCAs, Friends World Committee for Consultation, Mennonite World Conference, Reformed Ecumenical Synod, Baptist World Alliance, Disciples of Christ, World Alliance of Reformed Churches, Lutheran World Federation, Anglican Communion, Old Catholic Union of Utrecht, the Assyrian Church of the East, the Orthodox churches. Also invited were 15 Roman Catholic bishops, and leaders of six Roman Catholic Franciscan organizations. (EPS, 26-31 October 1986, 86.10.121)

Among the interfaith participants the following prayers where prayed:

1. THE HINDU PRAYER FOR PEACE:

Oh God, lead us from the unreal to the Real. Oh God, lead us from darkness to light. Oh God, lead us from death to immortality. Shanti, Shanti, Shanti unto all. Oh Lord God almighty, may there be peace in celestial regions. May there be peace on earth. May the waters be appeasing. May herbs be wholesome, and may trees and plants bring peace to all. May all beneficent beings bring peace to us. May thy Vedic Law propagate peace all through the world. May all things be a source of peace to us. And may thy peace itself, bestow peace on all, and may that peace come to me also.

2. THE BUDDHIST PRAYER FOR PEACE:

May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses. May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may those bound be free. May the powerless find power, and may people think of befriending one another. May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wildernesses - the children, the aged, the unprotected - be guarded by beneficent celestials, and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood.

3. THE JAIN PRAYER FOR PEACE:  Peace and Universal Love is the essence of the Gospel preached by all the Enlightened Ones. The Lord has preached that equanimity is the Dharma. Forgive do I creatures all, and let all creatures forgive me. Unto all have I amity, and unto none enmity. Know that violence is the root cause of all miseries in the world. Violence, in fact, is the knot of bondage. "Do not injure any living being." This is the eternal, perennial, and unalterable way of spiritual life. A weapon howsoever powerful it may be, can always be superseded by a superior one; but no weapon can, however, be superior to nonviolence and love.

4. THE MUSLIM PRAYER FOR PEACE:   In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful. Praise be to the Lord of the Universe who has created us and made us into tribes and nations, that we may know each other, not that we may despise each other. If the enemy incline towards peace, do thou also incline towards peace, and trust in God, for the Lord is the one that heareth and knoweth all things. And the servants of God, Most Gracious are those who walk on the Earth in humility, and when we address them, we say "PEACE."

5. THE SIKH PRAYER FOR PEACE: "God adjudges us according to our deeds, not the coat that we wear: that Truth is above everything, but higher still is truthful living. "Know that we attaineth God when we loveth, and only that victory endures in consequence of which no one is defeated."

6. THE BAHA'I PRAYER FOR PEACE: Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity. Be fair in thy judgement, and guarded in thy speech. Be a lamp unto those who walk in darkness, and a home to the stranger. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring. Be a breath of life to the body of humankind, a dew to the soil of the human heart, and a fruit upon the tree of humility.

7. THE SHINTO PRAYER FOR PEACE: " Although the people living across the ocean surrounding us, I believe, are all our brothers and sisters, why are there constant troubles in this world? Why do winds and waves rise in the ocean surrounding us? I only earnestly wish that the wind will soon puff away all the clouds which are hanging over the tops of the mountains."

8. THE NATIVE AFRICAN PRAYER FOR PEACE:

Almighty God, the Great Thumb we cannot evade to tie any knot; the Roaring Thunder that splits mighty trees: the all-seeing Lord up on high who sees even the footprints of an antelope on a rock mass here on Earth. You are the one who does not hesitate to respond to our call. You are the cornerstone of peace.

9. THE NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER FOR PEACE:

O Great Spirit of our Ancestors, I raise my pipe to you. To your messengers the four winds, and to Mother Earth who provides for your children. Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love, to respect, and to be kind to each other so that they may grow with peace in mind. Let us learn to share all the good things that you provide for us on this Earth.

10. THE ZOROASTRIAN PRAYER FOR PEACE:

We pray to God to eradicate all the misery in the world: that understanding triumph over ignorance, that generosity triumph over indifference, that trust triumph over contempt, and that truth triumph over falsehood.

11. THE JEWISH PRAYER FOR PEACE:  Come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, that we may walk the paths of the Most High. And we shall beat our swords into ploughshares, and our spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation - neither shall they learn war any more. And none shall be afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of Hosts has spoken.

12. THE CHRISTIAN PRAYER FOR PEACE:

Blessed are the PEACEMAKERS, for they shall be known as the Children of God. But I say to you that hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To those who strike you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from those who take away your cloak, do not withhold your coat as well. Give to everyone who begs from you, and of those who take away your goods, do not ask them again. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.

The content within these videos are quite amazing in light of bible prophecy concerning a one world religious body. It is truly time for God's people to be "Alert and Sober" considering where we are on God's prophetic time table.

Move To One World Religion (World Religions and UN)

Move To One World Religion (World Religions and UN)

In April April 15th - 20th, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI hosted an interfaith gathering at a cultural center in the nation's capital (Washington, DC). Representatives from the world's major religions have been invited to meet and discuss shared concerns with the pontiff. The main theme of the conference is, " religion working for peace." see following video:

Faith and values organizations form coalition to advance United Nations Decade for Inter-religious Cooperation for Peace

Some forty-five religious, interfaith, and value-based organizations from five continents agreed to form a coalition to advance a "United Nations Decade for Inter-religious and Intercultural Dialogue, Understanding, and Cooperation for Peace." Coalition members expressed the hope that the UN Sixty-Fourth General Assembly, which will begin its deliberations in September 2009, will approve a resolution establishing such a decade from 2011-2020.

The meeting took place at Maryknoll, New York, on 2-4 March. Participants included Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Shinto, Sikh, Zoroastrian as well as indigenous traditions.      view entire article

Who are the Organizations / Movements and The Common Goals Binding Their Unity?

The following is a list of Major Ecumenical Organizations / Movements starting from 20th Century forward. Not meant to be an exhaustive list, the purpose is to reflect the trend. This list will be periodically updated as significant events occur.

The VIII World Assembly of Religions for Peace 2006

The desire and drive to bring about world peace through religious unity is stronger than ever as can be seen in the following video from "The VIII World Assembly of Religions for Peace which was held in Kyoto, Japan from August 25-29, 2006."

The Future Prophetic Implication

When looking at the above stated goals and mission statements and prayers of the various ecumenical organizations and conferences. The following prophetic points are evident:

Pursuit of Peace

The stated mission of those who pursue interfaith ecumenism  is quite amazing in light of Biblical prophecy, Those who take God's word at face value will immediately recognize the prophetic significance of the "pursuit of peace" on a global scale as it relates to the "Day of the Lord". Consider Paul's words in 1 Thess 5:2-3 where he discusses the day of the Lord. In this disclosure he says' the following:

2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say,
Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape  (NASB)

It is truly time for God's people to be "Alert and Sober" (1Thess 5:6-10) as to where we are on God's prophetic time table. . , as we see religious Babylon that will play a role in the seven year tribulation being formed right before our eyes (Rev 17:1-7)

According to the World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP), " the origins of Religions for Peace date back to 1961, when a handful of senior leaders from the world's major faith traditions began exploring the possibilities for organizing a "religious summit" to address the need for believers around the world to take action toward achieving peace.[6]

Judging from the scriptures, this future false peace will have 2 primary influencers:

1. Apostate Christendom which will play a key role in ushering in (2 Thess 2:3-4) the anti Christ
2. Anti Christ political system which will support the false religious system during the (Dan 2:41-45, Rev 17:2a) first half of the seven year tribulation aided by the false church

The peace will be temporary and an instrument of deception (Dan 9:27 cf. ; 1 Thess 5:2-3; Rev 6:1-2) by the world ruler (Anti Christ) at that time and will ultimately lead to destruction (, i.e. ruin as opposed to annihilation) as brought on by Satan's anger and God's wrath  during the Great Tribulation.

In summation it will be a false peace, because it will be based upon man and driven by Satanic and demonic forces rather than upon the person of Jesus Christ.

[2] The World Council of Churches in The Challenge of Proselytism and the Calling to Common Witness states the following: (Note: this document uses proselytism in the negative sense only.)

19. Proselytism as described in this document stands in opposition to all ecumenical effort. It includes certain activities which often aim at having people change their church affiliation and which we believe must be avoided, such as the following:

  • making unjust or uncharitable references to other churches’ beliefs and practices and even ridiculing them;

  • comparing two Christian communities by emphasizing the achievements and ideals of one, and the weaknesses and practical problems of the other;

  • employing any kind of physical violence, moral compulsion and psychological pressure e.g. the use of certain advertising techniques in mass media that might bring undue pressure on readers/viewers;

  • using political, social and economic power as a means of winning new members for one’s own church;

  • extending explicit or implicit offers of education, health care or material inducements or using financial resources with the intent of making converts;

  • manipulative attitudes and practices that exploit people’s needs, weaknesses or lack of education especially in situations of distress, and fail to respect their freedom and human dignity.
